This is my version of spagetti bolognese or meatsauce if you will. Straight forward, easy to make. The sugar is used to balance out the often sour tinned tomatoes. Fresh chili is another way to go. My family loves this sauce. I also used the same meatsauce for my lasagna. And today I used tagliatelle instead of spaghetti.
Spaghetti bolognese

17 oz ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp dried chiliflakes
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dry oregano
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
1 1/2 (16 oz) cans chopped tomato
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp salt
pepper
1/2 beef bouillon cube, crumbled
1/4 cup water
A handfull basil leaves
Melt a little butter in a fryingpan over medium-high heat. Add chopped onion, garlic and bell peppers.
Fry until soft and translucent, a couple of minutes. Meanwhile in a large saucepan or dutch-oven, add tomatoes, oregano, sugar, ketchup, bouillon, paprika and chiliflakes. Heat up until it start boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and add the onion mixture. Cook on low heat while frying the ground beef. In the same frying an on high heat, melt a little butter or oil. Add the ground beef and use a fork to crumble the beef. Fry until browned and season well with salt and pepper.
Add the beef to the tomato mixture. Pour 1/4 cup water in the frying pan and cook out the juices.Add that into the meatsauce, put the lid on and cook the sauce on low heat for about half an hour. Season to taste and addd the basil leafs. Serve with pasta and grated parmesan cheese.
